How to Rent a Party Tent
Graduation and Wedding season is just around the corner. One of the most common questions that I receive is, “How do I rent a party tent?“ The best piece of advice that I can give you is to call your local party rental store and ask them what types of tents they carry. The sales representative should walk you through a consultation to determine what type of party tent that you need, and at the right price.
What is your budget for the event?
Before even thinking about what type of party you want for your special occasion understand that throwing parties can be very expensive – that is if you do not plan ahead, and don’t do your research. The typical party tent can range from $150 for a 10′ x 10′ tent, to thousands of dollars for tents designed to hold hundreds of people. An easy rule of thumb, the more people attending your event, the bigger the party tent that is required, and the more money it is going to cost.
What type of an event is it?
Are you hosting a high school or college graduation? Are you hosting a wedding? Or is it simply a casual family reunion? Depending on the type of event – and your budget – you can determine the right tent for you. For casual affairs (and affordable) you can rent a do it yourself assembly party canopy that can fit 50 people seated comfortably for around $250. Remember, assembly is not included, and you typically have to pick up the tent from the rental store yourself. If you are looking for a more elegant party tent, with delivery and assembly, the same tent (without center poles) will run about $475 depending on where you are located. The tents that I just recommended are for events that will entertain approximately 50 people. In some instances like a wedding, the price increases due to the size of the tent, and the overall quality of the product. The average wedding has about 125-150 guests that attend an event. In order to seat all of the guests comfortably a tent that is 30′ x 50′ would be necessary at that costs about $1000 including setup and delivery.
Are there any hidden tent rental costs?
If you are having an event on an open field, generally there should not be any hidden costs or extra assembly fees. In some instances where the company has to stake in to asphalt, or concrete there may be additional labor costs. Also, depending on the weather, the party tent rental company may require additional support for the tent. The additional support can be in the form of concrete weights, or water barrels that are tied to the tent.
